Photography tips
How this image was taken
For this side view of the paddle steamer, I used a focal length of 270 mm to capture the vessel isolated from its surroundings. An aperture of f/13 ensures a sharp rendering of the hull and the decorative flags, while the shutter speed of 1/160 s at ISO 200 was sufficient to freeze the motion clearly.
- Use a telephoto focal length to capture the ship from a distance, ensuring a proper composition without distortion.
- Select a smaller aperture if you want to capture fine details of the ship's structure and the flags with high clarity.
- Pay attention to horizontal alignment to ensure the vessel appears perfectly level on the water surface.
