Photography tips
How this image was taken
The exposure time of 2.5 seconds combined with an aperture of f/11 allows for a deep depth of field for this nighttime scene, while the ISO 640 setting ensures balanced light sensitivity. The 17 mm focal length provides the necessary wide angle to capture both the action on the ice rink and the surrounding city panorama.
- Use a narrow aperture such as f/11 to make the points of light from the string lights appear as distinct stars.
- Opt for a longer exposure time to capture the movement of the skaters as slight motion blur, which adds a sense of dynamism.
- Keep the ISO setting low to moderate when shooting at night to minimize noise in the dark areas of the lake.
