Monstercorso 2026 in Lucerne
Güdisdienstag in Lucerne. The Monstercorso 2026 brought masks, music, light and movement into the night. A photographic story about the final large moment of carnival.
The final evening of carnival
On Güdisdienstag, Lucerne changes once more. Shortly before carnival comes to an end, the Monstercorso fills the city with music, masks and confetti. The streets are dense, the air is cold, and the rhythm of the Guggenmusik bands can be felt through the crowd.
For me, the Monstercorso 2026 was an evening between movement and concentration. In the crowd, images appear only for a brief moment. A glance beneath a mask, light on a costume, smoke in the street or a group moving forward in rhythm.
Colour, light and movement
After dark, the colours become more intense. LED lights, painted surfaces and reflective fabrics create small accents in the frame. At the same time, much of the scene remains restless: people move, drums set the pace, confetti lies on jackets, hair and the ground.
Photographically, the evening moved between close detail and wider views. Some images are shaped by the details of the masks and costumes. Others show the density of the corso, the groups in motion and the focused energy shortly before the end of carnival.
Masks and faces
I was interested not only in the masks themselves, but also in the people behind them. Tiredness, concentration and joy were often close together. Especially towards the end of the evening, quiet moments appeared in the middle of the noise.
The series holds these contrasts: loud music and short pauses, bright light and dark streets, elaborate costumes and direct looks. What remains of the Monstercorso is not only the spectacle, but also the work and dedication of the carnival participants.
My observations from the evening
- The rhythm: When several groups play at the same time, the sound becomes part of the movement. The bass is not only heard, but felt in the ground and through the crowd.
- The details: Many images are carried by small elements: light inside the masks, painted surfaces, fabric structures, confetti and traces of a long carnival evening.
The echo fades, the image remains. The Monstercorso 2026 was a dense ending to Lucerne Carnival, captured in a series of close views, colour and movement.
